PhycoNor’s regenerative aquaculture project on the Ronda coast of Cebu centers on silvofishery for the tropical sea cucumber Holothuria scabra. These sea cucumbers play a vital role in marine ecosystems by recycling nutrients, maintaining seabed quality, and preventing dead zones through their feeding and burrowing activities. PhycoNor and LAMTIB runs a local hatchery and partners with native villagers and fishers to seed and harvest juveniles in nearby reefs. This open model supports both ecosystem health and the local fishery economy.
